  • Karen Tashima, MD, director of HIV clinical trials at The Miriam Hospital, has been named as one of ten outstanding physicians in the country for HIV care by

    Tashima has been practicing at The Miriam Hospital for ten years and has focused her efforts on the HIV clinical trials testing different combinations of antiretroviral drugs. In the mid 90's, she was involved in clinical trials that resulted in one of the most successful HIV treatment regimens. It is used today as a national benchmark when determining a patient's course of therapy. In addition to her extensive research, Tashima continues to treat patients both at The Miriam Hospital and the Family Healthcare Center at SSTAR, a clinic in Fall River, MA.

    After receiving an undergraduate degree from Harvard University, Tashima completed medical school at Columbia University. She performed her residency at The Presbyterian Hospital of New York City and fellowship in infectious diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital. is the largest online HIV resource and chose to recognize the top ten leaders in HIV in honor of their tenth anniversary.
