Specifically, our focus is to:

  • Investigate methods of motivating smoking cessation (motivational Interviewing; increasing risk perception) and increasing consumer demand for evidenced-based treatments
  • Provide a forum for collaborative research projects
  • Provide mentorship for young investigators
  • Investigate new technologies and channels to deliver smoking cessation treatment
  • Develop and test smoking cessation treatments for a variety of underserved cultures and subpopulations (e.g., psychiatric, medical, perinatal, ethnic)
  • Develop innovative ways to analyze smoking data
  • Use qualitative data, theory and community-based participatory methods to develop treatments
  • Investigate the physiological and psychological mechanisms of nicotine addiction and smoking cessation
  • To reduce second-hand smoke exposure in households of smokers
